Yale University intends to appoint a Postdoctoral Associate in Egyptology for the academic year 2024-25. The responsibilities of this postdoctoral position are primarily research and writing in collaboration with the scholarly activities of Egyptology at Yale University. In addition, based on the curricular needs of the Egyptology program, the duties of this position may include the teaching of one course in the second term of the academic year. We welcome a wide array of interests and specializations, including those with archaeological, museological and philological focus.
This postdoctoral associate position is funded by the William K. and Marilyn M. Simpson Endowment for Egyptology, administered by the Department of Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations at Yale University. Yale’s academic activities in Egyptology include archaeological missions in Egypt, close affiliation with the Peabody Museum and other major museums and collections, and the regular hosting of visiting scholars. The postdoctoral associate will have the opportunity to access the available academic and research resources and participate actively in the Egyptology program’s activities which may include organizing an international conference.
The initial appointment is for one year, thereafter renewable for a second year (contingent on satisfactory performance).
Compensation is commensurate with education and experience and will include Yale University’s benefits package.
A Ph.D. in Egyptology is required, as is a broad knowledge of Egyptology in all its sub-fields, from prehistory to the end of the Coptic period. Field experience, acquaintance with museum collections and practices, and/or teaching experience are all desirable.
