Lecture Information
The nightly and annual motion of the stars was clearly well observed and documented in ancient Egypt. In the surviving sources, we can see how star movements were described both relative to the horizon and in comparison to the motion of the Sun. Here, we look at a variety of ancient “moving pictures”, mainly from the New Kingdom: texts which bring to life a vibrant sky in motion.
