Chicago: Neferura: The Pharaoh’s Daughter

ISAC and ARCE Chicago sponsor a joint event celebrating the publication of the new book, Neferura: The Pharaoh’s Daughter by Malayna Evans (PhD, Egyptology, NELC). Activities include a book signing, discussion with the author about the book, a scavenger hunt in the ISAC Museum inspired by the book, and more!

The novel, Neferura: The Pharaoh’s Daughter is a historical novel about Neferura, the daughter of Pharaohs Hatshepsut and Thutmose II and the path she must take to escape her own dangerous fate.

Speaker Bios

Malayna Evans was raised in Utah and spent her childhood climbing mountains and reading Sci-Fi. She moved to Chicago in her early twenties where she earned M.A.s in the ancient history of the Mediterranean and the Near East and a Ph.D. in ancient Egyptian history. She enjoys sharing her passion for the ancient world with readers, adores travel, and plays a mean game of cards. A single mom, Malayna lives in Oak Park, IL, with her two children and two very spoiled Frenchies. You can learn more about her at malaynaevans.com.

Emily Teeter, PhD, is an Egyptologist and the author of many books and articles about ancient Egypt. She has consulted on a wide range of museum and multi-media projects. Emily has just completed a book recounting a century of work by the University of Chicago’s Epigraphic Survey.

Schedule

1:00 pm: Book reading by Malayna Evans and discussion with Emily Teeter about how Evans conceptualized and wrote the book, followed by Q & A. Please note that this part of the event will be live-streamed over Zoom. A Zoom link will be sent in advance to the participants who have registered for the event.

This part of the program will be approximately 45 minutes. It will then be followed by the book signing in the ISAC lobby and scavenger hunt in the museum. This part of the event will be in-person only.
