A Change in Leadership at ARCE

After five years of dedicated service, Dr. Louise Bertini has left her position as Executive Director of the American Research Center in Egypt (ARCE). Dr. Bertini joined the organization in 2018 as Director for Egypt and was promoted to Executive Director in 2019. We are immensely grateful for her commitment and her various accomplishments during her tenure, particularly her tireless efforts in acquiring and planning for our new headquarters in Cairo. We thank her wholeheartedly and wish her the very best in her future undertakings.

We are also excited to announce that Dr. Melinda Hartwig will be stepping in as ARCE’s Interim Executive Director. With nearly four decades of involvement with ARCE—as a friend, member, supporter, Fellow, project leader, Governor, and Board President—Melinda brings a wealth of experience and dedication to the role. She comes to us from Emory University, where she served as the Curator of Ancient Egyptian, Nubian, and Near Eastern Art at the Michael C. Carlos Museum. Previously, she was a Professor of Art History at Georgia State University and held the position of Faculty Curator at the Institute of Egyptian Art and Archaeology at the University of Memphis. Melinda will officially assume her duties on January 16, 2025.

We look forward to her leadership during this transition period and are confident that her extensive background will guide ARCE toward continued success.
