FebARCE-MO: San Francisco Annual Meeting Fellowships Opportunity
Deadline February 25, 2025.

- + Add to Calendar
ARCE-Missouri is excited to announce two scholarships of up to $500 each to help cover expenses associated with attending the Annual Meeting (April 25-27 in San Francisco).
Any member of ARCE-MO (U.S. citizen or permanent resident) may apply, as long as you have not received a scholarship from ARCE-MO within the last two calendar years. Those who are selected for a scholarship are expected to affiliate with the Missouri chapter in order to receive the award. If you are not a member of ARCE, you may still apply, but the cost for a one-year ARCE membership (currently $55 for students; $85 for regular members) must be included in your total request, although it will be in addition to your $500.
The deadline for applications is Monday, February 25, by midnight CST.
You may apply for a scholarship up to $500 (this amount does not include membership, but it should be included in the application). ARCE-MO will evaluate applications and may offer a scholarship in whole or in part of the requested amount. Priority will be given to current ARCE-MO members and first-time applicants.
Award Description and Application
The ARCE-Missouri Scholarships (AMS) are meant to contribute to the cost of attendance at the ARCE Annual Meeting for those in need of financial assistance for what is often an expensive trip. Applicants may apply for funds $500, but may receive less than the maximum at the discretion of the granting committee.
The scholarship may be used to cover travel (e.g. gas, airfare), hotel, other transportation costs (e.g. parking), food, conference registration, etc.
What this scholarship will not cover (this is not an exhaustive list):
Tuition or similar fees; personal travel that is not 100% related to an Egyptological conference or event; salary/personal income; any purchases that must be made in cash and/or lack receipts; gift cards; loans/debt payments; etc. Due to liability concerns, we cannot pay for child care.
If someone repeatedly applies for these sorts of items/requests the committee may block the application in future cycles.
Eligibility
Open to anyone*
- *who has not been awarded an ARCE-Missouri Scholarship (AMS) within the past two calendar years.
- *who is a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
- Younger members (17 years old at time of application or younger) should be assisted by a legal guardian, and in order to protect minors’ privacy, contact information should be for this guardian (but all monies or purchases will only be assigned to the person applying).
- If not an ARCE-MO member, you agree to join within 1 week of being awarded the scholarship.
- If you are not an ARCE member yet, we will subsidize your membership by paying one year’s membership in addition to the $500 scholarship. This is currently $55 for students and $85 for regular members.
- If you are an ARCE member without a chapter affiliation, you must request that your affiliation be assigned to “Kansas City/Missouri Chapter.”
- If you are an ARCE member of another chapter, you are only able to receive the scholarship if you switch your membership to the Missouri chapter.
ARCE-MO may, at any time, clarify or edit (delete or add) items to this list of eligibility qualifiers. We will update our materials and email you if changes are made during an application cycle.
Application Format and Questions
The application will be a Google Form. You will be asked to input answers to these prompts online. We recommend, however, that you type out your answers in a word document first and then copy/paste your replies into the form only after you are done. Scholarship winners must agree to be/become ARCE-MO members within 1 week of award announcement.
Scholarship winners implicitly allow ARCE-MO to announce their award (name and photo) on the ARCE-MO website and social media accounts (facebook, twitter), unless a letter from the recipient is written to ARCEMissouri@gmail.com within one week of award announcement asking for name/likeness to be kept offline (usually due to safety reasons). If a minor is awarded, a legal guardian must send an email within one week of the award announcement confirming or denying ARCE the right to publish the minor’s name and/or image.
So that awardees do not have to pay taxes on their awards, ARCE-Missouri will refund already-spent expenses or pay for costs (such as meeting registration) directly. Cash and/or checks for anything other than reimbursement will generally not be sent. Being awarded a scholarship or being announced as such does not guarantee the awardee any form of payment and ARCE-Missouri reserves the right to withhold, change, or cancel the award for any reason, at any time.
Anyone who submits a dishonest or insincere application may be blocked from future application cycle considerations and may be guilty of fraud. Someone who repeatedly submits applications for items not covered, or who harasses ARCE-Missouri, its members, or directors (e.g. through repeated emails, or petitions) will not be eligible.
Source of Funds
Scholarships are made up of 100% member-donated funds. Right now these funds are very limited, but we hope to continue to grow so we can offer more support.
Our Board has already donated over $1500 dollars towards our scholarships and programming, but we need your help! To this end, if you are interested in donating to support these scholarships, please contact us at ARCEMissouri@gmail.com. If you might know someone who is interested in donating, or a business who may want to sponsor a scholarship, please reach out to us at ARCEMissouri@gmail.com with the subject line “Fundraising Lead”. We appreciate your help in supporting our ARCE-MO community!
