Lecture Information: 

In today’s world thoughts of Egypt evoke images of gold, pyramids, and travel. For 19th century Americans, Egypt was a land of darkness, ignorance, and barbarism. Professor Davidson will explore the textual origins of these negative connotations, trace their usage in contemporary written accounts, and interweave key concepts in Egyptology and reception studies with this fascinating chapter of American History. 

About Stacy Davidson: 

Davidson is the resident Egyptologist and an Adjunct Assistant Professor of History at JCCC. She established an Egyptology specialization in Continuing Education to further her goal of making Egyptology accessible to any who wish to learn. Professor Davidson is the President and co-founder of the Missouri Chapter of the American Research Center in Egypt; she is also the creator and Team Lead of the Egyptology State of the Field Project, the first field wide analysis of demographic, educational, and occupational data on American Egyptology.
