ARCE ANNOUNCES NEW EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
ANNOUNCEMENT FROM MELINDA HARTWIG, ARCE PRESIDENT

The Board of Governors of the American Research Center in Egypt (ARCE) is pleased to announce the appointment of Jane B. Zimmerman as Executive Director, effective March 1, 2017.

Jane Zimmerman brings 29 years of experience leading international operations in both the non-profit and public sector. She served as a senior member of the U.S. Foreign Service from 1998-2013 stationed in Africa, the Middle East, and Europe. Under her leadership in Cyprus, the Embassy and USAID launched a $10.1 million program to restore cultural heritage sites, train staff, and build local capacity to manage them.  In the U.S., Jane held a Senior Foreign Service position at USAID where she led the budget planning, execution and performance reporting for a $2.2 billion portfolio of foreign assistance to Latin America. Jane has engaged Middle East-based researchers, scholars and curators alike through Fulbright Commissions and cultural heritage programs.

Most recently, Jane Zimmerman was the American Red Cross Association's Executive Director for International Policy & External Affairs (2013-2016). At the Red Cross, Jane helped secure $60 million over three years in foundation support to develop new international programs. She expanded the capacity of the top 20 chapters and launched training programs that reached 68,600 people in person and over 18 million through social media.

Jane's love of Egypt started early and led to numerous positions in North Africa and the Middle East. She is an experienced speaker who is conversant in Arabic, French, and Brazilian Portuguese. Ms. Zimmerman is a graduate of Tufts University's Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy (MALD). She is married to John Zimmerman, a historical interpreter at George Washington's Mount Vernon, and they have a teenage son.

Ms. Zimmerman looks forward to building upon ARCE's 69 years of achievement in supporting research on all aspects of Egyptian history and culture, fostering broader knowledge about Egypt, and strengthening American-Egyptian cultural ties.  She will lead the implementation of ARCE's 2017-2020 Strategic Plan, including the opening in April 2017 of ARCE's new headquarters in Alexandria, Virginia. Ms. Zimmerman's solid track-record of forging productive and collaborative partnerships across all cultures and backgrounds makes her an ideal leader to advance ARCE's mission. Please join the Board of Governors in welcoming Jane B. Zimmerman to ARCE.
