With the planning phase of the project done, work began on site in October 2012 with a small number of workmen and archaeologists. These numbers increased as the work progressed. The first section of Sheikh Abd el Qurna and el Khokha in which work was focused was beside the parking lot used by tour groups to visit the Tombs of the Nobles. This section is labeled Q08 on ARCE’s composite map of the area. The ‘Q’ in this sequence refers generally to Qurna, while the number 08 indicates that it was the eighth debris pile mapped by ARCE.
