Composite map of Qurna Site Improvement project. Photo: ARCE

With the planning phase of the project done, work began on site in October 2012 with a small number of workmen and archaeologists. These numbers increased as the work progressed. The first section of Sheikh Abd el Qurna and el Khokha in which work was focused was beside the parking lot used by tour groups to visit the Tombs of the Nobles. This section is labeled Q08 on ARCE’s composite map of the area. The ‘Q’ in this sequence refers generally to Qurna, while the numbers 08 indicate that it was the eighth debris pile that was mapped by ARCE. For a summary of work completed in section Q08, or other Q sections, please click on the accompanying links as they are made available.
